INGRAM SPARK

https://www.ingramspark.com/

Ingram’s CoreSource platform powers more than 37,000 publishers – large and small – around the world. They created their own self-publishing platform Ingram Spark. It offers ebooks, paperbacks, and hard cover.

Cost: The cost to upload a print and ebook is now free. You can also make changes without fees.

Rights: You retain all rights and can reupload at any time. Ingram offers a free ISBN. IngramSpark’s book cover template generator provides a free barcode.

Distribution: IngramSpark claims to help you reach 40,000 independent bookstores, online stores, chain stores, ebook retailers, Libraries, and Universities. Amazon, B&N, Apple, Kobo, Walmart, and Target in the US as well as global markets. They make no promises.

If you pay for their 55% wholesale discount program and make it returnable, you have a better shot and it helps if you want to do in-person book signings at a store. There are 3 return options non-returnable means no vendors can return them. This is available in all markets. Deliver means your books will be returned to you (if you live in the US or Canada). The shipping and handling fees are charged to you ($3 for US and $20 for international addresses) as well as the wholesale cost of the book. No promises are made in regard to the condition of the books. Destroy means the books will be returned to Ingram and destroyed. There are no shipping and handling fees but you are charged the wholesale cost of the book.

Book returns are deducted from your royalties in the month the returns are received from the retailer (in the case of “Yes-Destroy” titles) or the month that the return is shipped to the publisher (in the case of “Yes-Deliver” titles).

At the end of each fiscal month, Ingram will post the net amount you’ve earned in that month (publisher compensation earned minus the cost of returns) to our accounts payable system. The net amount earned will be paid in accordance with the payment terms contained in your print on demand agreement. If returns received in a given month exceed sales by an amount that causes your balance to become negative, IngramSpark reserves the right to send you an invoice for the balance due.

Services: They offer links to "experts" in file formatting, cover design, interior design, marketing, and publicity. They have great resources that cover pricing, marketing, approaching independent book stores, and a release timeline and steps to take to make your launch successful.

Payment:  They require a credit/debit card for ordering copies. Royalties vary from 40% to 50%, depending on the bookstore. They receive payments from the storefronts who deduct their cut, printing, and shipping costs. Compensation payments for ebook sales is 40% of the list price of your ebook. If you opted out of the Amazon agreement, you will earn 45% of the list price.

Payments are made via direct deposit or PayPal 90 days from the end of the month in which the sales are reported. Separate reports are generated for wholesale ebook sales and agency ebook sales. Ebook retailers have 25 days after month end to report sales to Ingram/CoreSource.

Next week, we look at Kobo.
